Moving right along…and a little something else.

So its been some time since I last wrote and boy do I have much to share. So we got word from our adoption case coordinator that we’ve OFFICIALLY been assigned a case worker to do our HOMESTUDY
defined… A home study is a review of you, your family and your home environment. It assists DFCS in determining whether you and your home environment would be suitable for a child. Home study  (CLICK RED TO GET MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PROCESS) preparation requirements vary.

Our first homestudy has been set for the end of AUGUST! PEOPLE!!!! This is a big stinkin’deal, you learn quickly in this lengthy and trying process that progress is PROGRESS and we’ve been waiting for this step. We are so excited and a little stressed too. We have a lot to do in our home to prepare…it can be a little daunting when you see our list. Matthews was wonderful enough to create this list for us to review and plan for repairs. Some are needed, others are not vital, some are pricey others are inexpensive…its all a process and its all a step to make our home better and safer for our child and we can’t reallllly complain about that now can we? Home Checklist

God will provide, of that we are certain.

Matthew 6:31-32 says it all, “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.”

Let me talk about this notion that God always provides for a moment. I can say that throughout our marriage we have never had a moment in our 4 years where we doubted a bill getting paid. I don’t say this to point to myself but rather to point up and say its all Him. Matthew and I have by no means made all the right decisions, we have irresponsibly spent money at times BUT we have ALWAYS tithed our 10%+ some and we have always worked to give out of love to others in addition to our tithing. We view our giving and tithing as separate entities. We’ve always felt that even if the numbers don’t add up that God will take care of us out of obedience to Him. Early in our marriage I struggled to tithe at times and would want to delay the tithe with the full intention of paying it later and in a loving way Matthew always said “no.” This was a point on contention early on because the numbers didn’t add up, but guess what we never went without. Please don’t mishear here….this is not a prosperity gospel. We have at times had to say no to going out or delaying purchases and even had to chow down on some rice and beans here and there but we’ve never gone hungry and that’s really the point. We aren’t promised riches we are however promised TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY if we so choose to cast our burdens on Him who is mightier than us. We have also worked to be obedient in our budgetting and as a result we have seldom had to worry when the UNKNOWS struck and the unknowns will always strike.

Example, tonight our water heater broke. God is providing through us on this, we have been obedient and tithed and give and we also have a savings account. We budget and have a savings account and we actively save so that we can honor GOD all the more…and yes we stumble but we know that through His guidance and wisdom we will always prevail. Its a partnership . God isn’t a genie who grants your wishes. God is God and we are His workmanship and we partner with Him.

Matthew 11:29-30 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

^ Could His words be any sweeter?

….I believe it is out of our hearts obedience and strive to follow Him in our hearts and minds that has sustained us. We’ve made mistakes but we always strive (the key here) to honor God with our finances. And because God promises us this security we then feel compelled to love and serve and help others. It’s like a river after a heavy rain it can’t help but to flow forward.

river.jpgWhen we feel His presence we can’t really deny His commandments, yes it physically possible to ignore God but He doesn’t cease to exist or cease giving commandments on how to serve and love just because we ignore Him. How can you love bigger today, how can you stretch yourself?  I’d be lying if I didn’t say we are both THRILLED and TERRIFIED of adopting and creating a family…but oftentimes God calls us into uncharted territories. And here we are.

We have our first adoption event this Saturday in Atlanta, this is the 1st time we’ve been invited. We are far enough along that we can attend these such events, we will be meeting caseworkers and getting to know children through the caseworkers bringing pictures, files, videos and charts of various kids, so we will see. THIS IS A BIG DEAL! We could potentially hear about OUR CHILD for the first time. Event is being hosted by WWK
